Help!

Okay, Andy has offered his first name suggestion for baby #3. He was reading his Backpacker magazine last night and found his suggestion.

Tarn

Thoughts? Click the name to see what it means. I don't really have any! I said no immediately. But now, he has it on the white board hanging on the fridge with the other name ideas I wrote up there, like this:

Clay Gibbs
Tyler (Ty) Gibbs
Marshall Gibbs
Tarn ____

They have Silas!

Cara says Silas has been very content since they left the orphanage. They got him a day early! He likes to eat Cheerios and play with his cars!! He is holding the cute green frog that my mom made him!

Another Freakin' House Update...that doesn't really tell you anything.

Heard yesterday Mr. Realtor man's thoughts. He inspected our house Monday night. Rather quickly. Only looked at a few things. He was overly concerned with our foundation on one side that has a crack in it. It was there when we bought it, has to do with the settling of the house. So I guess he's making that a HUGE deal now even though he knew about it before when he came and looked at our house to see if he was interested in a trade. Because of said crack he only wants to keep the contract as it is- without reducing the price at all. I just don't know what to do. Hopefully Andy and I will see each other long enough tonight to have a discussion about it and decide what we're going to do. That's all I got for now. Ughh.

Home Again!

The boys and I got home from West Virginia today. We went with Andy's parents to visit Andy's Nanny. Andy was in Richwood as well with the youth group doing mission work on local homes etc. We got up there late Tuesday afternoon and arrived home this afternoon. Andy is still driving home with the youth group- they went white water rafting today! We miss him! Even though we were able to see him for a little while in the evenings I can't wait for him to be home. We had a good trip- Luke didn't want to come home. On the drive home he kept saying "I go to Nanny's!" There isn't much to do in Richwood but we kept busy. We went and threw rocks in the river on Wednesday morning, went to the "work site" as Wilson called it to see the youth in action. Andy was roofing and Wilson got to go up and walk on the roof with him- very briefly! We hung out with the youth in the evening and on Thursday we took the boys to the Cass Railroad. They got to ride a train up the mountain, explore the camp where the loggers used to stay and each got a small train to take home. Luke was afraid of the train ride- it was loud. I'll post pics when Andy gets home with the camera. He was working with the youth but I was able to take the camera to Cass for some good pictures. Later that day Wilson wanted to have a water balloon fight so the youth group came over to Nanny's and had a water balloon fight. Wilson was in heaven! He and I had filled a bunch of water balloons- most of which he had used by himself so the youth filled a bunch more and fired away. We had a good time but Lottie sure was glad to see us when we got home!

Worn Out...

We've had a busy day.
7:20 Woke up
Then we ate breakfast and started cleaning. Of course Luke had to paint, and I got the Living room, dining room, hallway, and boys bedrooms picked up, dusted, and vacuumed. Still have to work on the kitchen and my bedroom. Did a quick clean in the boys bathroom (aka clorox wipes). Jumped in the shower. Called and scheduled dr appts. Talked to my ma-maw and Erin on the phone. Made sandwiches to eat in the car. Made Luke a 2nd sandwich since Lottie ate the first one.
11:20 Left to meet Stephanie and Erin at the park so all the cousins could play. We all brought bread too and fed the ducks. It was fun!
1pm- stopped by the library on our way home and then the boys and I got a milk shake (chocolate malt, the only way to go!) to share. We were killing some time until the dr appt.
2:15- dr appt. Both boys have an ear infection. Luke has 1 tube still in tact and the other tube is just hanging out in the ear canal, not doing anything. So he has an infection in that ear. Thank goodness he goes to the ENT on Monday for a tube check-up. Both boys are now on Augmentin. Thank goodness I decided to take them to the dr even though I wasn't 100% sure I should. Mothers do have good instinct!
3pm- leave dr and go to Meijer to fill prescriptions (Luke is needing a nap by now!)
3:40- leave Meijer with prescriptions and milk and a couple other necessities we picked up while waiting on prescriptions.
3:50- Get home and Luke falls off the stair of the porch while I'm getting stuff out of the car. I heard a loud thump- forehead hitting concrete. Not good. He will have a big knot on his forehead. I know it hurt. He also scraped above his lip so he was bleeding and crying. Poor baby. Cleaned him up and within 10 minutes he was sound asleep.

Now, to finish cleaning and get ready for tomorrow. I'm tired. Did I mention I'm almost 7 months pregnant?!

New Recipes

Okay, remember when I told you I really liked the new blog I found, Annie's Eats? Well this week I've tried a bunch of new recipes from her blog!
One night for dinner this week I made Chicken Quesadillas with White and Black Bean Dip. Very good. Click the name of each for the link to her blog with the recipe. I made a couple changes to the quesadillas - I cut the red pepper t0 1/4 tsp. because of my boys and I just used a skillet to cook the quesadillas so mine didn't have the fancy grill marks! It was still very yummy.

Tonight I made Spaghetti and Meatballs. The boys and I really liked this dinner. It made a ton of sauce so I froze 1/2 of it and saved enough in the fridge for leftovers. I followed her directions and made the meatballs about 2 T. in size and found they weren't cooked through in 20 min. so I turned the heat up and cooked them another 6 minutes or so. I might make them a little smaller next time. I also did not put mozzarella cheese in the middle of the meatballs. Just plain meatballs. I'm usually a spaghetti sauce from a jar kind of cook but this was easy and good!

Tonight, after getting the boys to bed I made 3 different muffin recipes off the blog- from SCRATCH!! No, they're not all for me!!! I am taking a basket of muffins to a friend at church who recently had a baby. Got that idea off of the blog too! I chose to make the Cinnamon Buttermilk Muffins- I'm calling them Cinnamon Sugar Muffins, Chocolate Chocolate Chunk Muffins (let's call those Double Chocolate Muffins), and the Blueberry Muffins. The recipes weren't difficult at all. I've only eaten 1 muffin tonight- a Cinnamon Sugar Muffin. Man, it was GOOD! Very light and fluffy. I am not a milk drinker and I had to have a small glass of milk after that. I hope the others are as good!

I bought a cute basket at Meijer. Wilson was a little worried that I was going to give all the muffins away but I promised him there was going to be plenty. The boys both REALLY like muffins!! I'll post a picture of the basket once I get the muffins inside tomorrow! I feel like such a little homemaker...

Lucy

My family's dog, Lucy, who lived at my parents house was put to sleep on Thursday. I've not been able to write about it until today. Lucy was sick and old and wasn't eating much. She'd gotten down to 20 lbs and looked awful. It's never an easy decision to put your dog to sleep but my family knew it was time. I know it has been very hard on my mom because she's still been with her the last several years while Cara and I have been gone. Mom took her to the vet by herself on Thursday, that's how she wanted it to be. Thankfully, I did not know the exact time she went. I don't even have a picture at the moment to post. Yesterday I was really sad and cried several times. I vividly remember going to the Humane Society with Cara and Ma-maw to pick a new puppy out. That was after our beagle, Mickey died. We were so upset and shocked with Mickey's death (she suffocated herself in a black drain pipe while chasing a chipmunk) that the only thing Cara and I could do next was get a new puppy to love. At the pound Cara and I liked Lucy. She was a terrier mix, a small black puppy. She was feisty and cute as could be. We went home and told our parents about Lucy and either that same day or the next we went back and adopted Lucy. She was a good dog. We'll miss her. I don't remember how we picked out her name but it was perfect for her. Ok, that's all I can say.

The House

Mr. Realtor man is coming to our house on Monday to inspect our house and decide if he accepts our offer on his house or not. I'm sure he will find every little thing wrong with our house that he can and try to lower his offer on our house as well. Who knows. Andy and I are both praying about this and if it's not meant to be we'll be ok. We're both still interested in the house but we're letting God be in control! This has been a very long process. I don't even remember when this all started! I'm feeling better about than I was the other day. I've driven by many other houses that I've looked at online but haven't liked any of them enough to look inside. So, we'll keep waiting!

The NEW Chick-fil-A

Have you been to the new CFA yet? I took the boys there for lunch today. It was fun! It's only been open a few days. The boys really enjoyed getting little cow stuff animals, balloons, and playing in the new playland. We sat at a tall table and they thought that was cool too. It was really busy and there were tons of workers there taking care of all the customers. As we were leaving they gave me a little flyer. This is what you'll want to know- CFA is giving away free breakfast all next week! You can go there any morning and get the breakfast item of the day for free! Here is the daily free breakfast item:

Monday- Chicken Breakfast burrito

Tuesday- Sausage Biscuit

Wednesday-Chick-n-Minis

Thursday-Chick-n-Minis

Friday-Chicken Biscuit

Saturday-Chicken Biscuit

No, I don't plan to go everyday but maybe once or twice!! Let me know if you go get any free breakfasts! I don't know if these are only available at the new CFA or not.

The house- it keeps going and going and...

Beyond frustrated. But still with a glimmer of hope. That is how I feel today. This whole house thing is old. I'm tired of negotiating and finding out more annoying things and trying to get the owner/realtor to understand he's not sitting on a goldmine with this house. It would be better for him to get it off his hands. He has all these "interested people" yet once they have an inspection and find out what we have they will probably run away.
So we had the chimney inspected. More bad news. Apparently the part above the roof is built all wrong. The chimney guy says the chimney will continue to leak because of the way it was built. He estimates $5000 to fix it. So we changed our offer and what not. He's thinking about it. He says he just had the cap replaced and the chimney should be fixed. But WHO knows?? The chimney guy also used to live down the street from the house when he was growing up so he told us more info about a fire at the house a long time ago. We were already aware because of the inspection and my grandparents knew that from living up the street a long time ago. So anyway. Who knows. We've already put in over $650 for the appraisal, chimney inspection, termite inspection, house inspection, plus more for getting the electricity and water turned on for the inspections. It makes me sick if we've just thrown this money out the door. Bye bye incentive tax money or whatever you call it. I'm so frustrated. I bought Golden oreos at the grocery today. I never buy sweets at the grocery. I ate 3 cookies. I always only let myself eat 2 cookies at a time ( and no, not multiple times in a day either!!). So I guess those 3 cookies were my pity party. I just want to know if we're getting that house or not. I know you might be asking yourself, "why would they still want it?" Well, there are some good things- it's big (2900 sq. feet), it was in our price range (before problem after problem, that's why we're re-negotiating), and is a true handy man and can fix it up, we love the layout of the house, perfect location, love the basement, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, AND WE WERE EXCHANGING OUR HOUSE. No getting our house ready to sell or putting it on the market. That was going to be an amazing deal. Plus we were walking away with a big downpayment. So, there are pros amidst all the cons but they are getting less and less.

Home Inspection

Today we had the home inspection and termite inspection. Tomorrow we're having the chimney looked at.
The house is termite free! The home inspector was awesome. We decided to use the one Danny & Stephanie used recently because they were really pleased with him. He did a great job. He was there from 9-12:30. He inspected everything! We have digital photos, a written report, and an emailed report with changes/updates he made once he was home checking his photos etc. He was very thorough so if you're in the area and need an inspector let me know, I'll give you his name and number! Overall, he said the house was good. He said if we were looking for a home that only needed paint and carpet to look elsewhere. This home has a LOT of needed repairs. There are some safety hazards that would need to be fixed ASAP (loose outlets, spring on garage door broken, and unsafe railing on steps in house and on deck). He said the other stuff we could fix over time. So now, Andy has read the report and we're thinking about our decision. We knew it needed a lot of work. We now have a list of all the problems. The house is being sold "AS IS" so the only negotiation would be price. We're not really comfortable with the current contract and closing costs plus all the work it needs financially so we're thinking. Not sure if the man we're buying it from will budge. So we'll see. I'll keep you updated.

"Yawn. Stretch! And touch your toes!"

Okay, I know that is random but it's a line out of one of our favorite books called Hey! Wake Up! by Sandra Boynton. I'm sooo sleepy right now. Anyway!
Today the boys and I have played, gone grocery shopping, taken lunch to Mimi and Poppy (they are in town majorly fixing up their old house so they can sell it), met the water guy at the new house to get it turned on, checked all the faucets in the new house for leaks, turned off all the lights that were left on in the new house (had the electricity turned on today as well), filled the Jetta up with $50 worth of gas, folded and put away laundry, talked to my mom on the phone, and laid Luke down for a nap. It's only 2:15! And one of those things up there required a 20 minute drive 1 way! So there. I feel like I've accomplished enough. I wish I could take a nap. But Wilson is playing furiously in the living room.
Things left to do today... make more guacamole - I'm hooked!, sign up for SBDM training, go to the LAST night of VBS (it's kickin' my butt this week), put together ham biscuits for Silas' coming home shower (not sure what to call it- he's not a baby!), fold another load of laundry, clean the kitchen, figure out an easy dinner for me and the boys, and on and on. Notice I said put the ham biscuits together- not make the biscuits from scratch, buy ham etc. My wonderful ma-maw and pa-paw did that part for me. They are so helpful! They are making 50 mini-biscuits and pa-paw insisted on buying the ham so all I've got to do is slice the biscuits open and put a little ham on there and display them nicely on a tray! Thank goodness!
Oh, and tomorrow I'm trying to make those cinnamon rolls for Andy- they take a while - and make a spinach lasagna for supper. And go to the Silas shower and Madelyn's early b-day party. I think that's it. Whoever called this summer VACATION is confused!!

Lovin' this new blog!

Are you familiar with the Chic Shopper Chick blog? I LOVE it! She reviews all kinds of stuff and gives away lots of great items! I have entered to win a great watch for Andy and a super cute purse for myself. She also reviews cool mom things you can get for your kids online and all sorts of great things. You can enter into her contests to win. Fingers crossed! A couple other posts from her blog that I liked or entered in a contest for are this one on Neat Solutions for moms and this one is cool too. But I also like this one. I could go on and on obviously! I'm so glad Sarah over at Bio Girl introduced me to this here blog!

* There is another new blog I'm loving. I found it this week too on my friend Sarabeth's blog. The new blog is called Annie's Eats and it is full of FABULOUS looking recipes. If I could cook like this girl my family would all be big and fat!! Her food looks delicious. I haven't tried any of the recipes yet but I definitely plan to! There is a cinnamon roll recipe Andy would love to have - maybe that would be a good things for father's day... sorry for that massive amount of links today!

Crayon + Carpet = NOT good

Anyone know how to get blue crayon out of light colored carpet? I TOLD you Luke entered into the Terrible Two's. We were cleaning up this morning and I was putting toys away as was Wilson. Luke was SUPPOSED to be putting crayons in the plastic crayon tub...I look over (only about 30 seconds had passed) and he was working hard at making the carpet blue. I'd post a picture but Andy must have MY camera with him!

Funny Sayings by Wilson & Luke

Wilson has a funny misconception that I have TRIED to correct, multiple times. He is very interested in all fire trucks, police cars/motorcycles, ambulances etc. He talks about calling 9-9-1-1. I've corrected him so many times that it is just 9-1-1 and he still says 9-9-1-1. It is so funny to hear him talk about it so seriously and he's saying the wrong number! This morning he woke up and said I had a dream last night that Mimi's (or Nanny's I can't remember which) house caught on fire and he had to call 9-9-1-1. I just smiled!

Luke's funny saying now is when he's hungry. Now Luke is a picky eater. With a big sweet tooth. He would eat treats all day and wash it down with coke if he could. He doesn't like to eat much. He's even so picky that he doesn't like hamburgers unless they are from McDonald's. We still try desparately to make him at least try what we're eating etc to earn his treat. It works some but not well. He's just picky. So many dinners he just eats the number of bites he has to - which causes him to be hungry later. So his funny saying is this- "Mommy, I JUST hungry" with a lot of emphasis on just. He throws both hands up in the air and says it out of exasperation! He repeats it over and over until I respond in some way. Trying not to laugh, I usually offer him his dinner plate again or another healthy option. This boy isn't as good an eater as Wilson and Andy and I know we need to be careful or he'll get even worse. He does have several healthy things he enjoys but he has definitely entered the terrible two's and is quite emphatic about what he wants!
9-9-1-1
"Mommy, I JUST hungry!"

My own rendition of "Where is my Hairbrush"

Oh where are the comments?
Oh where are the comments?
Oh where oh where oh where oh where oh wheeerrre
Are the comments?

Sung to the Veggies Tales tune from a long time ago.

I know, I'm bad at commenting on blogs too. Ever since I started using the beloved Google Reader. Maybe that's where the comments have disappeared to!

Guacamole Post

This post is in honor of some of my school friends who were talking about guacamole the other day and made me want to try it again! I've always wanted to like guacamole (not sure why) but haven't given it much of a chance. My sister, Cara, has a yummy recipe for guac so I used that and made it yesterday. My mom was over after our trip to Target and I had bought the ingredients at Wal-Mart. So I mixed us up some guacamole to go with our lunch. Neither of us were sure if we like guacamole or not but we both enjoyed it. Try it and let me know if YOU like it!!

Guacamole
4 ripe avocados (reserve 1 pit)
2 tomatoes, seeded and diced
1 medium Vidalia onion
2 small limes (or 1 large lime)
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
6 drops Tabasco sauce
1 t. salt
1/4 cup light sour cream

Chop onion and mash and peel avocados. (This part was fun! I've never worked with avocados before they are soft and mushy!) Mix together and add the lime juice. Add tomatoes and rest of ingredients except for sour cream. When thoroughly mixed, seal guacamole with a layer of sour cream and place an avocado pit on top of the dip to keep the dip from browning. (I skipped this step and just mixed the sour cream in b/c we were eating it right then). When ready to serve, remove pit and mix in sour cream. Serve with tortilla chips.

Skillet-Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie

I've been making this for several years and it is so good! Andy had a graduation dinner Saturday night for the 3 youth that just graduated and their families. I was the chef, along with his help and my mom's advice! I knew I wanted to make Cranberry Chicken so then mom and I decided on green bean casserole, salad, rolls, and rice. It was a good meal! I wanted the dessert to be yummy but simple so I settled on the skillet cookie. It reminded me how delicious it is since I haven't made it in a long time. I've made the cranberry chicken for several people and am always asked for the recipe so I'll post it too!

Cranberry Chicken
4 chicken breasts
1/2 cup water
1 envelope lipton onion soup
1 can jellied cranberry sauce
Mix the last three ingredients. Pour over chicken. Cover with foil and bake at 350 for 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Or you can throw it in a crockpot for a couple hours.

Skillet-Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie
2 cups flour
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1 egg
2 t. vanilla
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips (recipe suggests using 1/2 milk chocolate and 1/2 semi-sweet)
vanilla icecream

Preheat oven to 350. In a bowl mix flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. In another bowl cream butter and sugars about 2 minutes. Add egg and vanilla; mix. Add flour mixture, beat until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
Pour dough into a 10 inch iron skillet. Press to cover bottom of pan. Bake until edges are brown and top is golden, 40-45 minutes. Don't overbake, cookie will continue to cook a few minutes out of the oven. Serve in wedges with vanilla icecream!

House Update

Okay, we're moving forward again on the new house front.
* The realtor/owner we're buying from was approved for his loan to get our house!
* The other contract that was on the house is in default - there was a 24 hour kickout clause and that 24 hours passed without any bridge loans for updated contracts from their realtor, so now we're the only contract on the house!
* We were approved for our loan!
* I called and set up the inspection today. I want to also set up a termite and chimney inspection but not sure if we should do that after we find out the results of the inspection or do them all on the same day. Thoughts? The inspection is costing over $200 and adding the termite and chimney is another $100.
*Found out the closing costs on the house- a lot more than we anticipated. Our realtor is paying $3000 of the closing costs which is almost half...this will really cut into our money to fix it up at all. Just pray that we make the right decisions. We want to put as much down on the house so our monthly payments are affordable. But there is also stuff I want to do to the house so it is liveable. Paint (everywhere that we can), new carpet in the basement, & a new stove are at the top of my list. Pray that I can also know this will be a long process in getting the house to look the way that we want it to. We'll be getting a lot of house for a good deal because it needs a lot of work! It will take years (financially) to fix it all up.

Off to China!

Silas will be here before we know it! Read Cara's update here. I can't wait to meet him and I know Cara and Jason are thrilled at how this whole adoption has worked out so quickly and smoothly. Silas will be one very happy boy when he adjusts to his new family and new life! There are so many people here that already love him! Mom and Dad are keeping the girls. Cara has just started packing. They've got a lot to do between now and June 26th so keep them in your prayers! Some of Cara's friends are having a baby shower for her next Saturday that I'm looking forward to- she'll get some much needed boy things. Funny story, Luke really wants to go to China. He keeps telling me he is going on an airplane to China. He wants to go get Silas!

Blogging Funk...

OK, so I'm officially not allowed to keep NOT updating my blog. I've been in a blogging funk. I haven't wanted to post. Haven't had anything "big" enough to write about. I know, I know not everything I write about is "big" news. I hear ya. Anyway, I'm blaming this on the pregnancy. Yep. That sounds good. I haven't wanted to update the blog because I'm pregnant. 6 months pregnant (25 weeks). I'm big and huge. I feel so large. It is ridiculous. Mom, me and the boys went to Target today and I bought my first maternity swimsuit. The trip to Target was fun but buying a huge swimsuit was just ok. I'm ready to be un-pregnant. I've never big hugemongous in the summer before b/c Wilson and Luke were born in January. So, this is all new! I'm sorry to complain. I just don't have much energy and this is summer. Fun in the sun! Going to the pool and packing a picnic lunch! Playing in the sprinkler with the boys! And I'm just always so tired and unenergized. Aarrrgghh.
** I did go a little over 2 weeks with NO throwing up! Woo-hoo! 1 yucky morning and now on another stretch free of puking.
**At Target I bought the boys the cutest shower curtain, toothbrush holder, shower curtain rings, and hand towels for their new bathroom- whenever that happens. I had seen it a week ago and really liked it so I decided to go ahead and buy it before it disappears from their shelves. You can see it here. I still want to get some brightly colored towels in matching primary colors and the bath mat. Maybe the dump truck trash can too. I'd like to paint the bathroom blue or green to match. I'll consult with my interior designer and let you know what color I settle on!
**VBS starts tonight. Wilson will be in the preschool VBS and I'll be helping with preschool VBS (snacks and small group). Luke isn't old enough until next year so he'll hang out in the nursery with Ms. Gwen!
